1812Blockhouse provides regular weekend reports on road project work being conducted under the auspices of the Ohio Department of Transportation (ODOT) in Ashland, Crawford, and Richland Counties.
Such work is, of course, weather dependent. This past week, ODOT District 3 shared announcements of current and upcoming work in the three county area.
ASHLAND
U.S. Route 42 urban resurfacing – U.S. 42 in the city of Ashland, from Baney Road to just north of Cleveland Road, will have single lane closures for a resurfacing project. Traffic will be maintained at all times. Estimated completion: November 2024
U.S. Route 42 bridge replacement – U.S. 42, between SR 89 and Township Road 553, will have single lane closures for a bridge replacement project.Traffic will be maintained at all times using temporary traffic signals. Lane widths will be reduced to 10’ through the work zone.
CONTINUING IMPACTS
- Township Road 543 is closed for 75 days. The detour route will be TR 543 to TR 1275 east to TR 593 to U.S. 42, and reverse. Estimated reopening: Saturday, September 21, 2024

U.S. Route 42 & State Route 302 intersection improvement – The U.S. 42 and SR 302 intersection will be converted from the current two-way stop-controlled intersection into a single lane roundabout.
CONTINUING IMPACTS:
- The U.S. 42 and SR 302 intersection is closed to construct the remaining portion of the roundabout at this intersection.
- Local Detour: U.S. 42 east to SR 89 north to SR 58 north to U.S. 224 east to SR 301 south to SR 302, and reverse.
- All other motorists: SR 302 west to SR 301 north to U.S. 224 west to SR 58 south to SR 302, and reverse.
- SR 604 at U.S. 42 is closed. This is due to the closure of the U.S. 42 and SR 302 intersection. Motorists will not have access to SR 604 from U.S. 42, and vice versa. Only residential traffic will be maintained on SR 604.
- SR 302 westbound, from SR 89 to U.S. 42, is closed. Access will be maintained for residents.
- SR 302 eastbound, from U.S. 42 to Township Rd 251/1080 intersection, will remain closed. Access will be maintained for residents.

State Route 96 urban resurfacing – SR 96 in the city of Ashland, from Baney Road to Cottage Street, will have single lane closures for a resurfacing project. Traffic will be maintained at all times. Estimated completion: November 2024
State Route 604 resurfacing – SR 604, from U.S. 42 to just west of Camp Road, will have single lane closures for a resurfacing project. Traffic will be maintained at all times. Estimated completion: September 2024
CRAWFORD
U.S. Route 30 resurfacing – U.S. 30, from SR 98 to just east of SR 602, will have single lane closures for a resurfacing project. Project work includes resurfacing and minor bridge work. Traffic will be maintained at all times. Estimated completion: December 2024
State Route 39 pavement repairs – SR 39, between SR 103 and the village of Tiro limits, will have daily lane closures for pavement repairs. One lane of traffic will be maintained by flaggers. Estimated completion: October 2024
RICHLAND
State Route 13 resurfacing – SR 13, from Hanley Road to Chilton Ave, will have short term, single lane closures for resurfacing work.
CONTINUING IMPACTS
- The inside passing lane is closed northbound and southbound from just north of the I-71 ramp to Chilton Ave. Crews are replacing the median shoulder asphalt in preparation for next season’s work.
- The contractor is completing the necessary preliminary project work. Traffic will be maintained with barrels and the lane closures will be removed on a daily basis.
Estimated completion for 2024 construction season: November 2024 [Estimated completion of entire project: May 2027]
U.S. Route 30 westbound bridge repairs – NEW IMPACTS – U.S. 30 westbound, from just east of Lexington Springmill Road to SR 309, will have lane closures for an overhead bridge repair project on the Home Road overpass. Traffic will be maintained in 11’ lanes. Traffic on U.S. 30 eastbound will not be impacted. Estimated completion: October 2024
State Route 546 culvert replacement – SR 546, between Coursen Road and Bellville-Johnsville Road, is closed for a culvert replacement. The detour route for southbound motorists will be SR 546 to U.S. 42 north/SR 97 east in Lexington, to SR 97 east to Bellville, to SR 13 south to SR 546, and reverse. Estimated completion: Friday, September 27, 2024
State Route 603 pavement repairs – SR 603, from Rome Greenwich Road to Ganges Five Points Road, will have daily lane closures for pavement repairs. One lane of traffic will be maintained by flaggers. Estimated completion: October 2024
