1812Blockhouse provides regular weekend reports on road project work being conducted under the auspices of the Ohio Department of Transportation (ODOT) in Ashland, Crawford, and Richland Counties.
Such work is, of course, weather dependent. This past week, ODOT District 3 shared announcements of current and upcoming work in the three county area.
ASHLAND
U.S. Route 42 bridge replacement – U.S. 42, between SR 89 and Township Road 553, will have single lane closures for a bridge replacement project.Traffic will be maintained at all times using temporary traffic signals. Lane widths will be reduced to 10’ through the work zone.
CONTINUING IMPACTS
- Township Road 543 is closed for 75 days. The detour route will be TR 543 to TR 1275 east to TR 593 to U.S. 42, and reverse. Estimated reopening: Saturday, September 21, 2024
Estimated completion of entire project: October 2024
U.S. Route 42 & State Route 302 intersection improvement – The U.S. 42 and SR 302 intersection will be converted from the current two-way stop-controlled intersection into a single lane roundabout.
NEW IMPACTS:
- The U.S. 42 and SR 302 intersection will close Tuesday, August 6 to construct the remaining portion of the roundabout at this intersection.
- Local Detour: U.S. 42 east to SR 89 north to SR 58 north to U.S. 224 east to SR 301 south to SR 302, and reverse.
- All other motorists: SR 302 west to SR 301 north to U.S. 224 west to SR 58 south to SR 302, and reverse.
- SR 604 at U.S. 42 will close to traffic on Tuesday, August 6. This is due to the closure of the U.S. 42 and SR 302 intersection. Motorists will not have access to SR 604 from U.S. 42, and vice versa. Only residential traffic will be maintained on SR 604.
- SR 302 westbound, from SR 89 to U.S. 42, will close to traffic on Tuesday, August 6. Access will be maintained for residents.
- SR 302 eastbound, from U.S. 42 to Township Rd 251/1080 intersection, will remain closed. Access will be maintained for residents.
Estimated completion of entire project: October 2024
Interstate 71 bridge repairs – I-71, at various locations between U.S. 30 and SR 301, will single lane closures in both directions for bridge repairs. Traffic will be maintained at all times. Estimated completion: September 2024
State Route 89 & State Route 302 intersection improvement – The SR 89 and SR 302 intersection will be converted from the current two-way stop-controlled intersection into a single lane roundabout.
CONTINUING IMPACTS:
- The SR 89 and SR 302 intersection is closed for 60 days to construct the remaining roundabout at this intersection. Detour routes:
- Local detour: SR 89 north to U.S. 42 east to SR 301 north to U.S. 224 west to SR 58 south to SR 89, and reverse.
- All other motorists: SR 302 west to SR 301 north to U.S. 224 west to SR 58 south to SR 302, and reverse.
- Estimated intersection reopening: Monday, August 5, 2024

U.S. Route 224 culvert replacement – U.S. 224, between Troy Township Road 791 and County Road 681, is closed for a culvert replacement. The detour route will be U.S. 224 east to SR 511 north to SR 162 east to SR 58 south to U.S. 224, and reverse. Estimated completion: Monday, August 12, 2024
CRAWFORD
U.S. Route 30 resurfacing – U.S. 30, from SR 98 to just east of SR 602, will have single lane closures for a resurfacing project. Project work includes resurfacing and minor bridge work. Traffic will be maintained at all times. Estimated completion: December 2024
State Route 181 resurfacing – SR 181 in the village of Crestline, from SR 61 to Bucyrus Street, will have single lane closures for a resurfacing project. Traffic will be maintained by flaggers. Estimated completion: August 2024
State Route 598 resurfacing – SR 598, between the city of Galion and SR 39, will have single lane closures for a resurfacing project. Traffic will be maintained by flaggers. Estimated completion: August 2024roject. Traffic will be maintained by flaggers. Estimated completion: August 2024
RICHLAND
State Route 13 resurfacing – NEW IMPACTS – SR 13, from Hanley Rd to Chilton Ave, will have short term, single lane closures for resurfacing work. The contractor is completing necessary preliminary project work. Traffic will be maintained with barrels and the lane closures will be removed on a daily basis. Estimated completion for 2024 construction season: November 2024 [Estimated completion of entire project: May 2027]
State Route 96 bridge replacement – SR 96, between SR 603 and SR 545, is closed for 120 days for a bridge replacement project. The detour route will be SR 96 west to SR 545 south to SR 603 north to SR 96, and reverse. Estimated completion: Tuesday, August 20, 2024
