1812Blockhouse provides regular weekend reports on road project work being conducted under the auspices of the Ohio Department of Transportation (ODOT) in Ashland, Crawford, and Richland Counties.
Such work is, of course, weather dependent. This past week, ODOT District 3 shared announcements of current and upcoming work in the three county area.
ASHLAND
U.S. Route 42 urban resurfacing – NEW IMPACTS – U.S. 42 in the city of Ashland, from Baney Road to just north of Cleveland Road, will have single lane closures for a resurfacing project. Traffic will be maintained at all times. Estimated completion: November 2024
U.S. Route 42 bridge replacement – U.S. 42, between SR 89 and Township Road 553, will have single lane closures for a bridge replacement project.Traffic will be maintained at all times using temporary traffic signals. Lane widths will be reduced to 10’ through the work zone.
CONTINUING IMPACTS
- Township Road 543 is closed for 75 days. The detour route will be TR 543 to TR 1275 east to TR 593 to U.S. 42, and reverse. Estimated reopening: Saturday, September 21, 2024

U.S. Route 42 & State Route 302 intersection improvement – The U.S. 42 and SR 302 intersection will be converted from the current two-way stop-controlled intersection into a single lane roundabout.
CONTINUING IMPACTS:
- The U.S. 42 and SR 302 intersection is closed to construct the remaining portion of the roundabout at this intersection.
- Local Detour: U.S. 42 east to SR 89 north to SR 58 north to U.S. 224 east to SR 301 south to SR 302, and reverse.
- All other motorists: SR 302 west to SR 301 north to U.S. 224 west to SR 58 south to SR 302, and reverse.
- SR 604 at U.S. 42 is closed. This is due to the closure of the U.S. 42 and SR 302 intersection. Motorists will not have access to SR 604 from U.S. 42, and vice versa. Only residential traffic will be maintained on SR 604.
- SR 302 westbound, from SR 89 to U.S. 42, is closed. Access will be maintained for residents.
- SR 302 eastbound, from U.S. 42 to Township Rd 251/1080 intersection, will remain closed. Access will be maintained for residents.
Estimated completion of entire project: October 2024
Interstate 71 bridge repairs – I-71, at various locations between U.S. 30 and SR 301, will single lane closures in both directions for bridge repairs. Traffic will be maintained at all times. Estimated completion: September 2024
State Route 96 urban resurfacing – NEW IMPACTS – SR 96 in the city of Ashland, from Baney Road to Cottage Street, will have single lane closures for a resurfacing project. Traffic will be maintained at all times. Estimated completion: November 2024
CRAWFORD
U.S. Route 30 resurfacing – U.S. 30, from SR 98 to just east of SR 602, will have single lane closures for a resurfacing project. Project work includes resurfacing and minor bridge work. Traffic will be maintained at all times. Estimated completion: December 2024
State Route 181 resurfacing – SR 181 in the village of Crestline, from SR 61 to Bucyrus Street, will have single lane closures for a resurfacing project. Traffic will be maintained by flaggers. Estimated completion: August 2024
State Route 598 resurfacing – SR 598, between the city of Galion and SR 39, will have single lane closures for a resurfacing project. Traffic will be maintained by flaggers. Estimated completion: August 2024
RICHLAND
State Route 13 resurfacing – SR 13, from Hanley Rd to Chilton Ave, will have short term, single lane closures for resurfacing work. The contractor is completing the necessary preliminary project work. Traffic will be maintained with barrels and the lane closures will be removed on a daily basis. Estimated completion for 2024 construction season: November 2024 [Estimated completion of entire project: May 2027]
State Route 96 bridge replacement – SR 96, between SR 603 and SR 545, is closed for 120 days for a bridge replacement project. The detour route will be SR 96 west to SR 545 south to SR 603 north to SR 96, and reverse. Estimated completion: Tuesday, August 20, 2024
State Route 603 culvert replacement – SR 603, between Snake Road and Rome Greenwich Road, is closed for a culvert replacement. The detour route for northbound motorists is SR 603 to SR 13 south to SR 96 west to SR 61 north to SR 603, and reverse. Estimated completion: Friday, August 16, 2024
