A lucky Richland County lottery player is celebrating a significant win after hitting the jackpot in the Ohio Lottery’s February 11 evening Pick 5 drawing. The winning numbers—9-6-7-8-5—earned the fortunate ticket holder a $25,208 prize. The winning ticket was purchased at Matt’s Mart, located at 1215 Lexington Ave in Mansfield.

Following mandatory state and federal tax deductions of 28%, the winner will take home an estimated $18,201.60.

Pick 5 is one of the Ohio Lottery’s popular daily draw games, offering two chances to win each day at 12:29 PM and 7:29 PM, except on Saturday evenings, when the drawing coincides with the Cash Explosion TV game show. Players can select from multiple play styles, including Straight (exact order), Box (any order), and Back-Up (a combination of both). The top prize for a $1 Straight play is $50,000, with odds of 1 in 100,000.

Ohio Lottery’s Impact on Education and the Community

Beyond producing big winners, the Ohio Lottery plays a crucial role in funding education across the state. Since its launch in 1974, the lottery has contributed over $33 billion to K-12, vocational, and special education programs. In fiscal year 2024, a record $1.51 billion was transferred to the Lottery Profits Education Fund, directly benefiting Ohio’s schools.

The lottery also boosts the local economy, with retailers earning over $282 million in commissions from lottery ticket sales. Meanwhile, Ohio Lottery games continue to see record-breaking participation, with traditional games like Pick 5 and Scratch-Offs generating $4.54 billion in sales in fiscal year 2024.

Richland County has seen its share of recent winners, including James Osgar of Mansfield, who took home $100,000 in a Rolling Cash 5 drawing and plans to donate a portion of his winnings to charitable causes.
