The festivities are over, and the time has arrived to clean up the old and get on with a new year.

Part of that annual process is the removal and disposition of live Christmas trees. Richland County’s three cities have announced programs to help residents with that process.

MANSFIELD — The City of Mansfield has announced that the public can bring their Christmas trees to the City Service Complex located at 480 Park Ave East for disposal from 7:30 AM to 3:00 PM. The trees must be free of all tinsel and decorations so that they can be ground into mulch.

If you have any questions concerning Christmas tree disposal please contact the City of Mansfield Service Complex @ (419) 755-9803.

SHELBY — The City of Shelby Service Department will be collecting real Christmas trees from lawns over the next couple of weeks. Please remove adornments (i.e.; tinsel, lights, bulbs, etc.) from the tree, and do not place the tree in a bag. The last day of collection is anticipated to be Friday, January 15.

ONTARIO — Tree collection will take place for residents between January 4 and January 15. Please remove all ornaments and tinsel, and place the tree by the curb. Questions? Call Jeff Wilson at 419-529-2495.

For other ideas on what to do with your tree, see this post on the Ohio Department of Natural Resources website.
