The Renaissance Performing Arts Education Department has announced the return of its popular Improv Underground program, a free theatre improvisation course that is part of the 2024-25 Mechanics Bank Education Series. Known for its engaging and fun approach to skill-building, the program is set to benefit students aged 14-19, with younger participants (ages 12-14) considered with instructor permission.

Building Confidence Through Creativity

The Improv Underground classes aim to develop interpersonal and communication skills through interactive theatre games and improvisation activities. Students will build basic improvisation skills while fostering self-confidence and teamwork in a supportive environment. According to the Renaissance Theatre, participants are guaranteed to enhance their communication abilities and have fun while doing so.

Classes will take place on Wednesdays from 4:00 PM to 5:30 PM, beginning January 29, 2025, and running through March 4, 2025, at the Renaissance Theatre in Mansfield. The program culminates in an open mic-style performance featuring student participants on Wednesday, March 5, 2025, at the Renaissance Theatre’s intimate 166 venue.

Local Expertise Leads the Way

The course will be led by Dauphne Maloney, a well-known figure in the region’s youth theatre community. Maloney’s experience and passion for working with students make the program a standout opportunity for young creatives.

“The Improv Underground program is not just about learning theatre skills—it’s about building confidence, encouraging creativity, and creating connections among students,” said Maloney.

How to Participate

Registration for Improv Underground is open and free of charge. Students can sign up online at www.rentickets.org or by emailing Dauphne Maloney directly at [email protected].

For additional information, interested participants can contact Maloney at 419-522-2726, ext. 212. Details about other educational programs offered by the Renaissance Theatre can also be found on the organization’s website.
