The third annual Reps For Ryan event to honor Ryan Garner, a former Mansfield police officer who passed away in May 2018 after being diagnosed with stage four lung cancer, will include a pull-up marathon in Ryan Garner’s name. The event is scheduled for Saturday, October 5 from 8:00 AM to 2:00 PM at Crossfit Katana (67 N. Main Street, Mansfield).

Those attending the event may also opt to do Burpees, Push-ups and Air Squats. This is not a contest event. All are welcome to attend; anyone unable to join in person can still participate by doing the exercises on their own and posting the results to social media with the hashtag #Reps4Ryan. Visit the Reps For Ryan Facebook page to learn more.

T-shirts are being sold for the event, and 100% of the proceeds will go to the Lung Cancer Foundation of America. T-shirts can be purchased here:

Ryan Garner worked as a K-9 officer and was a member of the Mansfield SWAT team. He was athletic and active, always finding time to lift weights and practice mixed martial arts. According to his obituary, “Ryan lived with cancer.  It did not define who he was or overtake his spirit, and to the amazement of medical professionals, his family and friends, Ryan never quit. He knew the difference between giving up and letting go, and Ryan never gave up…He often worked through what he’d call “discomfort” (Ryan never spoke the word pain; it simply wasn’t in his vocabulary).  All he wanted to do was get back to work; to work alongside his brothers and sisters in blue.  Ryan’s sheer grit and mental toughness inspired not only his family and friends but also his circle of physicians that were treating his cancer.   He felt it was his responsibility and duty not to quit.”
