This fall, you have an opportunity to join in fun which has captivated local dancers for almost 50 years.
The Johnny Appleseed Square Dance Club is completing its first half century in bringing together Western Square Dance enthusiasts for Saturday evening dances from October through May. And, beginning on October 5 with an introductory session on September 28, a multi-week instructional course is available.
According to the club, “Partners are not necessary to join the Appleseed Square Dance Club. However, it’s more enjoyable to learn with family and friends. We welcome all ages. Bring a family member or friend for fun, fellowship, and exercise. If you do not have a partner, existing club members will be there to ensure you have a partner for each class.”
The main course starts on October 5 and lasts for 10 weeks; cost is $30 per person. Classes take place from 7:00 PM to 9:00 PM on successive Thursday evenings at Holy Trinity Lutheran Church, 525 W. Cook Rd.. In January, a “Plus Level Session” for those interested in learning additional square dance calls.
According to Wikipedia, square dancing came to North America with European settlers. Associated with the west and the American cowboy, the square dance is the official dance for 19 U.S. states.
