OhioHealth Mansfield Hospital has earned the U.S. Environmental Protection Agency’s ENERGY STAR® certification once again for superior energy performance. This is the second year the hospital has earned the ENERGY STAR®, reflecting a legacy of continued energy savings.
“Improving the energy efficiency of our nation’s buildings is critical to protecting our environment,” said Cindy Jacobs, Chief of the ENERGY STAR Commercial & Industrial Branch. “From the boiler room to the board room, organizations are leading the way by making their buildings more efficient and earning EPA’s ENERGY STAR certification.”
ENERGY STAR® is the only energy efficiency certification in the United States that is based on actual, verified energy performance. Hospitals that receive this certification are verified to perform in the top 25% of buildings nationwide, based on weather-normalized source energy use that takes into account occupancy, hours of operation, and other key metrics.
Mansfield Hospital’s sustainability efforts continue to grow. The hospital building earned an ENERGY STAR® score of 81 this year, three points higher than last year. This means Mansfield Hospital is now more energy efficient than 81% of similar properties nationwide. Since last year, the hospital installed new boilers to increase energy efficiency. It also installed new charging stations in April that support efforts to reduce tailpipe emissions. This work aligns with OhioHealth’s Climate Pledge to reduce emissions by 50% by 2030.
Mansfield Hospital is one of two OhioHealth hospitals to achieve ENERGY STAR® certification. For more information about ENERGY STAR for Buildings and Plants, click here.
