New road projects will appear across north central Ohio in the coming week, including in Ashland, Crawford, and Richland Counties. During this year’s road building season, 1812Blockhouse is bringing you weekly construction updates from District 3 of the Ohio Department of Transportation.
ASHLAND COUNTY
State Route 58
SR 58 is closed for two culvert replacements. The first location is north of Co. Rd. 620 and the second location is north of Twp. Rd. 782. The detour route for northbound motorists is SR 58 to SR 302, east on SR 302 to SR 89, north on SR 89 to SR 58, and reverse for southbound motorists. The road is expected to reopen on Friday, August 3.
Interstate 71
I-71, from US 250 to the Wayne County line, will have intermittent single lane closures during the day and double lane closures at night for a resurfacing project. Nightly pavement repairs will take place from 8pm-7am. The project will utilize digital speed limit signs to maintain traffic flow. The posted speed limit when crews are NOT working will be 65 mph; the reduced speed limit when workers are present will be 55mph. The project is expected to be complete in August.
State Route 95 ***NEW***
SR 95, from just east of Green TR 2704 moving east consecutively to just west of Ashland CR 37, will close Monday, July 9 for multiple culvert replacements.Crews will consecutively move west to east along SR 95 to complete all seven culverts. The location and time frame for each culvert is as follows: 1.) July 9-July 13: just east of TR 2704, 2.) July 16-July 20: just west of TR 707, 3.) July 23-July27: just west of TR 707, 4.) July 30-August 3: just west of TR 2475, 5.) August 6-August 10: between TR 2402 and TR 457, 6.) August 13-August 17: just west of SR 89, 7.) August 20-August 24: just west of CR 37. The detour route is the same for all seven culverts. Motorists heading northeast should travel SR 95 to SR 39, southeast on SR 39 to SR 3, northeast on SR 3 to SR 95, and reverse for southwest motorists. The road is expected to reopen on Friday, August 24.
US Route 250 ***NEW***
US 250, between Twp. Rd. 1056 and Twp. Rd. 1006, will close Monday, July 9 for a culvert replacement. The detour route for northbound motorists is US 250 to US 42, northeast on US 42 to SR 89, north on SR 89 to SR 58, north on SR 58 to US 224, west on US 224 to US 250, and reverse for southbound motorists. The road is expected to reopen Wednesday, on August 8.
County Road 1302
CR 1302, at the structure over I-71, is closed for bridge repairs. The detour route for westbound motorists is CR 1302 to SR 89, north on SR 89 to US 42, southwest on US 42 to CR 1302, and reverse for eastbound motorists. The road is expected to reopen on Sunday, August 19.
CRAWFORD COUNTY
US Route 30
US 30, from Tiffin St. to Lower Leesville Rd., will have eastbound and westbound single lane closures for bridge repairs. Crews will maintain one lane of traffic in each direction at all times. Please use caution while driving in the area. The project is expected to be complete by the end of the month.
US Route 30 ***NEW***
US 30, at its structure over SR 4, will have intermittent single lane closures for bridge repairs. Intermittent lane closures will occur on SR 4 southbound beginning July 9. Traffic on US 30 will not be affected. Crews will maintain one lane of traffic in each direction at all times. Please use caution while driving in the area. The project is expected to be complete by the end of the month.
State Route 97 ***NEW***
SR 97, from Nazor Rd. to the City of Galion’s east corp. limit, will be reduced to one lane of traffic for a resurfacing project. Traffic will be maintained with flaggers. The project is expected to be complete in September.
State Route 98
SR 98 (Plymouth St.), from SR 4 (Sandusky Ave.) to US 30, is closed for sanitary sewer installations and resurfacing work. No truck traffic will be permitted to travel through this area. Only local traffic will be able to access certain portions of SR 98 as the project progresses. The detour route for westbound motorists is SR 98 to US 30, west on US 30 to SR 4, south on SR 4 to SR 98, and reverse for eastbound motorists. The project is expected to be complete in August

State Route 98
SR 98, between Beechgrove Rd. and Dickson Rd., will have single lane closures for a resurfacing project. Traffic will be maintained by flaggers. The project is expected to complete by the end of the month.
State Route 598 ***NEW***
SR 598, from Old Lincoln Way to the City of Galion’s north corp. limit, will be reduced to one lane of traffic for a resurfacing project. The project is expected to be complete in September.
RICHLAND COUNTY
County Road 27 ***NEW***
CR 27 (Darlington E. Rd.), the structure over I-71 east of Darlington N. Rd., will close Monday, July 9 for bridge repairs. The detour route for eastbound motorists is Darlington W. Rd. to Darlington N. Rd., north on Darlington N. Rd. to Woodberry Rd., east on Woodberry Rd. to SR 546, south on SR 546 to Darlington E. Rd., and reverse for westbound motorists. The project is expected to be complete on Monday, July 23.
County Road 31
CR 31 (Bellville-Johnsville Rd.), at the structure over I-71, is closed for bridge repairs. The detour route for eastbound motorists is Bellville-Johnsville Rd. to Mill Run Rd., north on Mill Run Rd. to Mock Rd., eat on Mock Rd. to Ritter Rd., south on Ritter Rd. to Bellville-Johnsville Rd., and reverse for westbound motorists. The project is expected to be complete on Wednesday, July 11.
State Route 96
SR 96, from the City of Shelby Corp. limits to SR 13, will be reduced to one lane of traffic for a resurfacing project. Traffic will be maintained by flaggers. The project is expected to be complete by the end of the month.
State Route 603
SR 603, between Baseline Rd. and Mill St. in Plymouth, is closed for a bridge replacement. The detour route for southbound motorists is SR 603 to SR 61, south on SR 61 to SR 96, east on SR 96 to SR 13, north on SR 13 to SR 603, and reverse for northbound motorists. The project is expected to be complete on Friday, August 10.
