Columbia Gas and its contractor, Global Energy Partners, are set to begin a relocation project in Mansfield. Crews are installing approximately 700 feet of new pipe serving roughly 9 properties along the section of S Main Street between W 5th Street to W First Street. This project is necessary to clear conflict with existing gas infrastructure ahead of the planned city streetscape project. Crews will begin by installing the new main line and then proceed to install service lines for individual properties.
The new plastic pipe has several benefits, including enhanced safety features and the ability to bend to the earth’s contour while expanding and contracting with shifting temperatures. Once installed, the modernized system will last longer and reduce the amount of future maintenance required for upkeep.
The project requires only a short interruption to natural gas service. Global personnel will contact affected property owners to schedule the brief shut off and relight appointment. Note that employees and contractors carry identification cards with their names and photographs.
There is no additional cost to customers and Columbia Gas will restore all impacted property in conjunction with the city streetscape project. Work is expected to begin this week and last roughly 1-2 months. Note, crews will also work closely with business owners to minimize impacts to daily operations.
