Updated: Two comedic one-act shows will be performed at the historic Bellville Opera House next month. On March 27 and 29, Mid Ohio Opera invites you to step back in time with them as they perform Pergolesi’s La Serva Padrona and J.S. Bach’s Coffee Cantata.
La Serva Padrona was first performed in 1733 and was written as an intermezzo to a longer opera. That opera was unsuccessful, but La Serva Padrona enjoyed fame across Europe. Bach’s Coffee Cantata is a miniature comic opera written about the same time. In a satirical commentary, the cantata amusingly tells of an addiction to coffee.
Each will be recreated as 19th century performances that would have been seen when the Bellville Opera House itself was new. Footlights, wigs, and painted backdrops will set the scene for the performances, and also allow the audience to feel that they have traveled back in time.
The performances are free, though donations will be accepted. Anyone wishing to attend must reserve their seat by obtaining their free ticket here. The Opera House is located at 142 Park Place in Bellville.
