On Monday, Mayor Tim Theaker’s office announced that the National Arbor Day Foundation has named the City of Mansfield a “Tree City USA” for the 24th consecutive year.

To receive this award, a community and its Shade Tree Commission must demonstrate a commitment to implementing a sound urban forestry policy.

The City of Mansfield Shade Tree Commission has chosen to celebrate our 24 years of being designated as a Tree City USA with a very special Arbor Day Celebration with our newest partner, the Rotary Club of Mansfield on Friday, April 26 at 10:00 AM at the Gazebo in Central Park. Shade Tree Commission Chair Josh Maurer stated, “We are thrilled to have the Rotary Club of Mansfield partner with us on our plan for Central Park, and felt that the Arbor Day Celebration was the perfect time to kick off the plan to ensure we have established trees in Central Park.”

Mr. Scott Young, representing the Rotary Club of Mansfield shared, “The Rotary Club of Mansfield has a special project to plant trees in the Mansfield/Richland County area. We believe kicking off this project with the Shade Tree Commission on Arbor Day was perfect to demonstrate our commitment to the growth of downtown Mansfield and to share with the community our project commencing this spring.”

The City of Mansfield Shade Tree Commission and the Rotary Club of Mansfield will be planting a Pin Oak on the north side of the Gazebo as part of the Commission’s commitment to the urban forest and tree planning and replacement program, and to celebrate this partnership with the Rotary Club of Mansfield.

Mayor Theaker invites the community to join the Commission by celebrating Arbor Day 2019 with a tree planting and if your schedule permits, join us for this ceremonial tree planting and learn more about the Shade Tree Commission’s 2019 Work Plan and the Rotary Club of Mansfield’s Tree Planting project.
