On Wednesday at approximately 5:46 AM, the Mansfield Division of Police received a call from residents at 275 Poplar Street advising that a male subject had been causing a loud disturbance outside of their apartment and had broken out their apartment window. They further advised the subject was still outside the apartment and causing a disturbance as they continued to hear glass break.

Shortly after arriving at the apartment complex, officers attempted to make contact with the subject, who was in an adjacent apartment. The subject opened the door and directly came at an officer with a sword. This immediately escalated the confrontation and resulted in the subject being fatally shot.

The Ohio Bureau of Criminal Investigation (Ohio BCI) has been requested to conduct the investigation into the shooting. The officer involved in the incident was placed on administrative leave per Division policy.

The officer involved is Officer Nolan Goodman who is a four year veteran of the Mansfield Division of Police. The subject’s name is being withheld pending notification to family.

UPDATE: Richland Source has now reported that the assailant has been identified as Midcuff Lamarco Robinson of Mansfield.
