Need plans for your Friday night? The Mansfield Jazz Orchestra, in collaboration with the Richland Academy of the Arts Big Band, will be performing the music of Woody Herman on Friday, February 28 at 7:00 PM at the Richland Academy of the Arts in downtown Mansfield.

The performance is part of the Majestic Theatre Jazz Concert Series and will feature special guests from the Woody Herman Orchestra: trumpeter Jim Powell, bassist Terry Douds, and drummer Jim Rupp. The Richland Academy of the Arts Big Band will also appear as the opener for this fantastic evening of music.

Woodrow “Woody” Herman was born May 16, 1913 in Milwaukee, Wisconsin. He was an American jazz clarinetist, saxophonist, singer, and big band leader. Leading various groups called “The Herd”, Herman came to prominence in the late 1930s and was active until his death in 1987. His bands often played music that was cutting edge and experimental for its time; they received numerous Grammy nominations and awards.
