The Mansfield Division of Police shared the following statement on Friday afternoon:

At approximately 1:10 PM on Friday afternoon, the Mansfield Division of Police received notification that stabbing victim Cindy Powell, age 46, had passed away as a result of her injuries. Ms. Powell was a victim of a stabbing attack that had occurred this week on Altamont Avenue.

The suspect in the stabbing, Ricky Porter, age 55, later turned himself in to authorities on April 7, after a “Felonious Assault” warrant had been issued for his arrest in connection with the stabbing. Mr. Porter had fled the scene prior to the officers’ arrival. However, witnesses at the location immediately identified Mr. Porter as the suspect.

Marjoy Crimes Detectives are now investiating this incidncet as a homicide and after consulting with the Richland County Prosecutors Office, a felony warrant for “Murder” (a Frist Degree Felony) is being processed for Ricky Porter at this time. Mr. Porter remains incarcerated at the Richland County Jail.

Ms. Powell’s death is the first homicide of 2020 in our city. We are asking that anyone who may have additional information regarding this crime please call Major Crimes Detective Mary Perry at (419) 755-9730.
