Less than a week into the new year, Mansfield has already experienced two shootings; though this is disconcerting news, neither shooting has resulted in a loss of life. The afternoon of January 1, Mansfield Police responded to the area of 111 North Walnut Street after receiving a call in reference to a person being shot. Witnesses stated that the victim was in a verbal argument with the driver of a white car; the victim was shot and the white car sped away from the area.

Two days after on January 3, the Mansfield Police responded to 24 Helen Ave Apartment #1 at approximately 8:57 PM after receiving a call in reference to a person being shot. Upon arrival, patrol officers located a black male shot just inside the doorway of Apartment #1; the male, age twenty (20), was transported to an area hospital for treatment of a gunshot wound. Witnesses at the scene advised officers that they had heard one shot and two males flee from the area. The males were later located and interviewed by detectives. No arrests have been made at this time.

A search warrant was served at 24 Helen Ave Apartment #1 and certain evidence was collected from the apartment and surrounding the building.

The Major Crimes Detectives are continuing to follow up on leads and talk to witnesses. Anyone with information regarding the January 1 shooting can contact Detective Rick Clapp at 419-755-9470 or Det. Ronee Swisher at 419-755-9432.
