Downtown Mansfield Inc. (DMI) is inviting all members of the community to attend a public meeting on the transformative Mansfield Main Street Improvement Project. The meeting will take place on Thursday, April 10, from 4:30 to 6:00 p.m. at the DMI offices, located at 128 N. Main Street in downtown Mansfield.

The event is an opportunity for residents, business owners, and stakeholders to get a first-hand look at one of the city’s most ambitious revitalization efforts in decades.

What to Expect at the Meeting

The public meeting will feature a presentation outlining the project’s scope, objectives, and construction timeline. Attendees will learn about key aspects of the 18-month project, which began preliminary work in February 2025. A Q&A session will follow the presentation, giving the community a chance to ask questions and share input.

“We encourage all residents, business owners, and stakeholders to join us in shaping the future of downtown Mansfield,” said Brent Rossman, Communications Specialist at DMI. “This project is a crucial step toward making our Main Street a more vibrant and welcoming space for everyone.”

Project Overview: A $7.4 Million Transformation

The Mansfield Main Street Improvement Project is part of a larger vision. Funded through federal RAISE grants, state assistance from the Ohio Public Works Commission, and local PRIDE tax revenue, the project’s $7.4 million budget reflects a serious investment in Mansfield’s future.

Construction is anticipated to continue through mid-2026, bringing both structural improvements and a renewed sense of place to the heart of the city.

Key Improvements on the Way

Some of the most notable upgrades include:

  • Two-Way Traffic Conversion: Main Street will be converted from one-way to two-way traffic, enhancing access for vehicles and pedestrians.
  • Pedestrian Safety and Accessibility: Installation of ADA-compliant sidewalks, decorative crosswalks, and mid-block pedestrian crossings will ensure a safer and more inclusive streetscape.
  • Beautification and Atmosphere: Plans call for new lighting, native plant landscaping, and modern street furniture to enhance the street’s aesthetic appeal.
  • Public Space Upgrades: Improvements to Central Park, the Carrousel District, and the Brickyard Entertainment District include new seating, restored monuments, and improved crossings.

Construction in Phases

To minimize disruption, the construction will occur in carefully planned phases:

  • Phase One: Initial work includes waterline installation and traffic adjustments. Though daily lane closures will occur, at least one lane will remain open at all times.
  • Utility Work: Pre-construction meetings and early utility relocation efforts are already underway.

Supporting Businesses and Staying Informed

DMI and project partners are working to ensure that downtown businesses remain accessible and supported during construction. The “Main Street Strong” initiative includes promotional campaigns and parking alternatives aimed at keeping foot traffic flowing throughout the project.

Regular public updates, input sessions, and community feedback opportunities are central to the project’s approach, ensuring that everyone has a voice in the process.

How to Get Involved

Whether you’re a lifelong resident, a local business owner, or simply curious about the future of downtown Mansfield, your voice matters. Join the conversation on April 10 and be part of the journey to a stronger, more connected community.
