Downtown Mansfield is buzzing—not just with the energy of local businesses, but with the steady hum of progress. The much-anticipated Main Street Improvement Project, led by Downtown Mansfield, Inc. (DMI), is well underway, and the first stage is making solid headway.

The organization shared this update on Friday.

🚧 Water Main Milestone Reached

Crews have successfully completed the installation of a new water main between 3rd and 5th Streets, marking a major milestone for Stage One. Work is now progressing between 2nd and 3rd Streets, as well as along Park Avenue, with these efforts taking place during overnight hours (7:00 PM to 6:00 AM) to minimize disruptions.

This essential utility work includes new fire hydrants and updated service connections and is expected to wrap up in early June.

🛠️ Preparing for the Future: Sidewalk & Signal Foundations

While the water line work continues at night, a second crew is busy during the day with prep work for upcoming project phases. Workers are:

  • Installing new traffic signal foundations
  • Reinforcing areas beneath sidewalks, particularly near buildings with basements, to ensure long-term stability and pedestrian safety

Once utility work concludes, the project will move into its next phase—installing new sidewalks and lighting from 5th to 6th Streets, giving Mansfield’s Main Street a bright, walkable facelift.

🚦 What Drivers and Visitors Need to Know

Downtown Mansfield is open for business, but visitors should be aware of changes that come with progress:

  • One lane of traffic remains open along Main Street.
  • Expect shifting traffic patterns in both lanes—please drive cautiously through work zones.
  • All downtown businesses remain accessible to pedestrians, though sidewalk detours may be in place.

🅿️ Parking Made Easy—and Free

To make your trip downtown easier during construction:

  • On-street parking is still available on Main Street, though periodic closures may occur.
  • 3rd and 4th Streets continue to offer additional on-street parking.
  • Best of all, parking is free on Main, 3rd, and 4th Streets between Diamond and Walnut throughout the project. Just be sure to use marked spaces and park close to the curb.
  • Public parking lots are marked in blue on the map below
