An Adaptation of a Beloved Classic

Based on the popular comic strip Little Orphan Annie, Annie Jr. is a condensed version of the original Broadway musical, adapted for younger performers while retaining its charm and upbeat spirit. The musical, created by Tony Award-winning writers Thomas Meehan, Charles Strouse, and Martin Charnin, tells the story of Annie, a lively orphan in Depression-era New York City who dreams of finding her parents. Her optimism and determination lead her on a series of adventures, ultimately transforming the lives of those around her.

Drew Cohen, president of Musical Theatre International (MTI), praised the Madison Music Department for taking on the production, saying, “Annie is a heartwarming show with an important message about the true nature of family. In the show, we see how a plucky little girl transforms her entire life by making the most out of every moment. MTI applauds the students from Madison for all their hard work on their production.”

A Story of Adventure and New Beginnings

Annie Jr. follows the young orphan’s journey from the gritty orphanage run by the mean-spirited Miss Hannigan to the lavish home of billionaire Oliver Warbucks. Along the way, Annie outwits Miss Hannigan, befriends President Franklin D. Roosevelt, and finds an unexpected family in Warbucks, his secretary Grace Farrell, and her dog Sandy. The show features classic songs like “Tomorrow” and “It’s the Hard Knock Life,” bringing energy and emotion to the stage.

The lead role of Annie will be played by Bri Studer, who will bring the feisty orphan’s story to life. Sophia Parsons will take on the role of Miss Hannigan, the orphanage’s notorious caretaker, while Brandi Bowles will portray Grace Farrell. Daddy Warbucks will be played by Gage Workman, with Drake Ramey as the villainous Rooster and Audrey Ward as his accomplice Lily St. Regis.

Meet the Cast and Crew

Madison’s production of Annie Jr. brings together a talented ensemble of young actors, including Livia Foote, Mackenzie Wynn, Harmony Moses, and Kennadi Knipp, among others, as the orphans. The supporting cast features Amerah Hapin, Gaby Vega-Wieland, Kristian Stoots, and other students who will fill roles as New Yorkers and servants, adding depth to the production’s lively scenes.
