The Little Buckeye Children’s Museum, even amidst their COVID-19 closure, donated a second round of their award-winning “Buckeye Bags” last week to in-need families in Richland County.

The bags, which won the “Spirit of Community” award from the Ohio Travel Association in 2020, contain toys and supplies for a variety of fun and educational activities that children can do at home, along with a helpful activity guide.

“The goal of our Buckeye Bag Program is to continue in our mission of ‘providing children and families with the opportunity to learn and discover through the power of play’ despite our closure due to COVID-19,” explains Suzanna Hammond, Museum Manager.

The program, which provided 200 bags in its second round, also aims to help prevent or slow the “learning loss” that can occur over the summer.

“All of these activities are designed to be both fun and educational, and the included activity guide helps family members to understand how these activities are beneficial to their child’s development,” says Fred Boll, Executive Director.

The 200 Buckeye Bags were made possible thanks to funding from The Shelby Foundation Emergency Support Fund Grant. Park National Bank and Nationwide Children’s Hospital also donated supplies for the bags. The bags are being distributed by Marvin Memorial Library in Shelby.
