Leadership Unlimited (LU), a distinguished community leadership program in Richland County, is once again preparing to welcome a new cohort of professionals eager to expand their leadership skills and community engagement. With its first graduating class in 1983, the program has since empowered countless individuals to become more effective leaders in their workplaces and the broader community.

The program is designed for mid-career professionals seeking to develop their leadership potential while gaining an in-depth understanding of the challenges and opportunities facing Richland County. Through immersive experiences, including tours, panel discussions, and service projects, participants engage directly with community leaders, elected officials, and nonprofit organizations.

A Transformational Experience

Each program day is structured to accommodate different adult learning styles, featuring expert panels, business tours, hands-on activities, and insightful speaker sessions. A typical day in the Leadership Unlimited program includes:

  • 8:45 a.m. – Coffee and light breakfast
  • 9:00 a.m. – Panel discussion
  • 11:00 a.m. – Business tour 1
  • 12:00 p.m. – Lunch and interactive activity
  • 1:00 p.m. – Business tour 2
  • 2:00 p.m. – Guest speaker
  • 3:00 p.m. – Debriefing session
  • 3:30 p.m. – Capstone project discussion

The program covers essential topics such as economic development, workforce development, education, health equity, housing, and responses to crime, ensuring participants gain a well-rounded perspective on local issues.

Proven Impact

Graduates of the Leadership Unlimited program consistently report significant personal and professional growth. A post-program survey from the Class of 2024 indicated that participants enhanced their leadership skills, expanded their professional networks, and gained a deeper understanding of Richland County’s community initiatives. Many graduates go on to serve in leadership roles within businesses, nonprofits, and public service organizations.

Informational Webinar Set for February 19

For those interested in learning more about the Leadership Unlimited experience, an informational webinar will be held on February 19, 2025, from 4:00 p.m. to 4:30 p.m. The session will outline program expectations, learning outcomes, and the impact on past participants. It will also provide an opportunity for prospective applicants to ask questions before applying.
