C’mon, admit it. Once and a while you just have to purchase that chocolate bar at the gas station to have your occasional “fix.”
Chocolate is, of course, a part of a good life. Technically, it refers to a food product made from roasted and ground cacao pods. Cacao has been consumed in some form since the Olmec civilization (19th to the 11th centuries B.C.).
These days, it is a key part of Spring Into Chocolate Weekend at Charles Mill Lake Park, which runs from Friday, May 20 through Monday, May 23. The schedule of events is as follows:
Friday
7:30 PM – Family BINGO –fun for all ages. Enjoy a night of BINGO treats at the Messerly Recreation Center.
Saturday
9:30 AM – Chocolate Lover Breakfast – Enjoy chocolate pancakes, chocolate muffins, chocolate donuts, and more. Cost is $2 per person, cash only. First come, first served.
12 Noon to 1 PM – Kidz Mystery Animals/Nature crafts – Stop by the Eagle Point Shelter for mystery fun!
2 to 3 PM – Chocolate/Pretzel time – Meet at the Messerly Recreation Center for this craft and treat combo. You will make flowers out of chocolate, pretzels, and marshmallows. For all ages.
3:30 PM – “What Would You Do For A Klondike Bar? – Let’s find out! All ages welcome at Eagle Point Shelter
7 PM – Chocolate Delight – Games for all ages, chocolate trivia games, and more at the Messerly Recreation Center
Sunday
10:15 AM – Non – Denominational Church Service at the Messerly Recreation Center.
While you’re there, enjoy the other amenities at Charles Mill, including:
- Full size basketball court located by beach
- Public Swimming Beach; beach hours are 11 AM to 7 PM Monday- Thursday and 10 AM to 7 PM Friday-Sunday. (Pets are not permitted at the swim beach area or in the water at the swimming area.)
- Swimming Pool at Eagle Point Campground
- Horse-shoe pits by our beach and in both parks
- Bocce ball court
- Shuffleboard court
- 9 hole Frisbee golf course located just beyond beach
- Donaldson Hiking Trail located off Crider Rd.
- Fishing (Must have Ohio Fishing License)
- Boating (Max 10 horsepower)
- Playgrounds / swings located in both parks and beach area
