Richland County Transit (RCT) is rolling out the red carpet for riders as part of Ohio Loves Transit Week, happening February 10-14, 2025. This statewide initiative, celebrated by over 65 transit agencies, highlights the importance of public transportation and its role in strengthening communities, economies, and equitable access to services.
Free Rides and Exciting Giveaways
As part of the festivities, RCT will offer free rides on Tuesday, February 11, making it easier than ever for riders to take advantage of public transportation. Throughout the week, transit passengers will have the chance to receive exclusive RCT and Ohio Loves Transit swag, distributed randomly on buses and at the Transit Center.
Riders can also win additional prizes by visiting the RCT Transit Center’s selfie station, snapping a picture, and tagging #OLT-RCT on Facebook. Each day, RCT will select random participants from their tagged posts to receive special prizes.
A Statewide Effort to Support Public Transit
Ohio Loves Transit Week is more than just a celebration—it’s a call to action for sustainable funding and continued investment in public transportation. Statewide, the initiative showcases how public transit supports local economies, connects workers to jobs, and provides essential services for thousands of Ohioans.
Among other transit agencies participating across Ohio:
- TARTA (Toledo): Free fares for all riders on February 11.
- Greene CATS (Greene County): Complimentary rides February 10-14.
- Noble County Transit: Free rides throughout the week (subject to availability).
- Dayton RTA: Encouraging riders to submit Valentine’s cards to legislators, advocating for increased transit support.
- Cleveland GCRTA: Running a photo contest to highlight real rider experiences.
Public Transit’s Economic Impact
Public transit in Ohio delivers a strong return on investment, with studies showing that for every $1 spent, communities see a $4 economic boost. With 59 million annual rides statewide, transit remains a crucial component of Ohio’s infrastructure, connecting residents with jobs, healthcare, and educational opportunities.
In cities like Dayton, where public transit provides over 6 million annual rides, Ohio Loves Transit Week serves as a reminder of the essential services transit agencies provide to their communities.
