This year’s Arbor Day celebration in Mansfield will include a ceremonial tree planting.

The City of Mansfield has been designated as a “Tree City USA” for the twenty-third consecutive year. To receive this honor, a community and its Shade Tree Commission must demonstrate a commitment to implementing a sound urban forestry policy.

Since 1976, the program is a nationwide movement that provides a framework for communities to manage and expand their public trees. 143 million Americans currently live in a Tree City USA.

The City of Mansfield Shade Tree Commission has chosen to celebrate our 23 years of being designated as a Tree City USA with a very special Arbor Day Celebration. At 34 Park Avenue West, in front of the Soldiers & Sailors Memorial Building in downtown Mansfield, a Gingko tree will be planted as a part of the Commission’s commitment to the downtown tree replacement program for the ongoing revitalization of our downtown.

The planting of the Gingko will occur on Friday, April 27 at 11:00 AM. This is the first of two projects planned by the Shade Tree Commission to support and encourage the citizens of Mansfield to celebrate Arbor Day and beautification efforts in Mansfield.

Mayor Theaker invites the community to join the Commission by celebrating Arbor Day 2018 with a tree planting and if your schedule permits, join us for this ceremonial tree planting.
