It’s the latest investment in cardiovascular care at OhioHealth Mansfield Hospital.
“This is the new, latest, greatest thing,” said Kaleb Kohler MD, vascular surgeon at Mansfield Hospital.
The Philips Azurion 7 C20 Flex Arm is a high-tech imaging system that can be used by neuro and vascular surgeons, as well as interventional radiologists. It’s part of the new interventional radiology lab at the hospital.
While the new equipment supports some of the same surgeries as the old technology, some of the capabilities are brand new.
“What it’s allowing us to do is do more complicated work, more safely for patients,” said Dr. Kohler. “So trying to keep more cases local and keep more patients here for their care, closer to home.”
Some of the new procedures vascular surgeons are able to perform include advanced aortic repairs, using stents to fix enlarged blood vessels in the abdomen.
Allowing patients to get more care locally is a big win, but even more important, they can rest easy knowing they’re getting the safest care.
“We’ve already been fixing aneurisms with our lowest amount of radiation to the patients,” said Dr. Kohler. “Which again, more radiation is bad, it puts you at risk of burns, puts you at risk for all the other bad things that come with that over a long enough time frame. Lowest radiation, lowest amount of contrast to light up the blood vessels, faster times, all those sorts of things.”
The new interventional radiology lab opened in January of 2025.
This new investment is part of a bigger, nearly $15 million project to upgrade Mansfield Hospital’s labs, including a new electrophysiology lab, new CT lab with new software, new cardiac catheterization labs, and a new biplane lab.
These big plans for the hospital’s cardiovascular team allow them to continue advancing care right at home in Mansfield.
