As part of a continued effort to bolster community preparedness, the Richland County Emergency Management Agency (EMA) is sponsoring an essential training course, “MGT 405: Mobilizing Faith-Based Community Organizations in Preparing for Disaster.” Scheduled for October 1, 2024, from 8:00 AM to 5:00 PM at Crossroads Church, this course offers a comprehensive approach to disaster preparedness tailored specifically for Faith-Based Community Organizations (FBCOs).
A Course Designed for Community Leaders
This 8-hour, DHS/FEMA-certified, tuition-free course is designed for a wide range of participants, including first responders, governmental officials, community volunteers, and leaders from faith-based organizations. The training aims to enhance the capacity of FBCOs in emergency situations by equipping them with the necessary tools and knowledge to effectively respond and assist during disasters.
Participants will delve into the critical roles that FBCOs have historically played during and after major disasters. The course emphasizes the importance of understanding the responsibilities and authority of different governmental and non-governmental organizations. It also covers the four phases of emergency management, vital emergency-related terminology, and the significant role leadership plays in FBCO preparedness.
A Collaborative Approach to Emergency Planning
The course encourages the application of social networking techniques to prepare members for disaster scenarios. It also guides participants in developing a local emergency plan, identifying the elements of a comprehensive county emergency plan, and evaluating the effectiveness of FBCO engagement in these processes.
This training will be held in a shared learning environment, fostering collaboration among emergency managers, first responders, and FBCO leaders. The hands-on approach ensures that participants not only learn theoretical concepts but also apply them in practical scenarios.
Who Should Attend?
The course is particularly valuable for:
- First Responders
- Governmental Administrative and Elected Officials
- Citizen and Community Volunteers
- Community Emergency Management Personnel
- Community Stakeholders
- Churches and Faith-Based Organizations
Given the critical role these groups play in disaster response and recovery, the training is expected to significantly enhance local emergency preparedness and ensure a coordinated response during crises.
