Ohio’s senior residents facing challenges with heating costs this winter can access help through the Home Energy Assistance Program (HEAP). This initiative, led by the Ohio Department of Development and Area Agencies on Aging, provides financial support to qualifying households, ensuring they stay warm through the colder months.
Who Qualifies for HEAP?
HEAP is designed for Ohioans who meet these income requirements:
- Households of 1-7 members: Income at or below 175% of the Federal Poverty Guidelines.
- Households of 8 or more members: Income at or below 60% of the State Median Income.
This assistance is applied directly to utility or bulk fuel bills, easing the financial burden of heating costs.
How to Apply for HEAP
Older Ohioans can get help applying for HEAP by contacting their local Area Agency on Aging office, which offers guidance on assembling required documents and submitting applications.
Applicants may also apply online or download the necessary forms by visiting energyhelp.ohio.gov.
