There was no shortage of activity at the corner of West Fourth and North Main about 5:30 PM on Friday night.

The City parking lot was jammed full with several cars circling for a spot. Dozens of parents were trying to keep children entertained as the clock slowly inched toward 6:00 PM and the hoped-for lighting of the Community Christmas Tree at Richland Carrousel Park. Fortunately, not only was the Carrousel happily doing its turns, but Santa was sitting nearby welcoming the little ones.

As the moment neared, a quartet began singing Christmas carols and the crowd was greeted by Mansfield Mayor Tim Theaker.

The noise abated as everyone joined in a countdown from five to one and the tree was lit.

Additional activities were taking place down North Main and along Fourth, including at Buckeye Bakery where cookie decorating was underway.

The annual event is organized and presented by Downtown Mansfield, Inc..

Below is the Christmas Tree immediately after it was lit. Happy Christmas, Mansfield!
