Community Event Provides Free Safety Resources for Families
Families in Richland County will have an opportunity to enhance their children’s safety at the annual Child Safety Identification Program, “Safe Surfin’,” set to take place at the Buckeye Imagination Museum on Thursday, February 22, from 10:00 AM to 2:00 PM. The free event is hosted in partnership with the Lexington Moose Lodge #2511 and will feature participation from multiple local law enforcement agencies.
“Safe Surfin’” is designed to provide parents with a personal identification record of their child, including fingerprints, photos, and essential details stored on a disc for safekeeping. Importantly, no personal information is retained by law enforcement or any other agency, ensuring families maintain full control over their child’s records.
Empowering Families Through Safety and Education
The event is part of a larger effort led by the Safe Surfin’ Foundation, a nonprofit organization founded in 1998 by law enforcement professionals to promote internet safety and responsible technology use among youth. The foundation’s Cyber S.W.A.T. (Safety While Accessing Technology) program serves as a flagship initiative, combining peer mentorship, law enforcement expertise, and cross-sector collaboration to help communities protect children in an increasingly digital world.
By attending “Safe Surfin’,” families can gain access to important resources that reinforce both real-world and online safety. Children of all ages are welcome to participate, and attendees will have the chance to interact with officers who serve and protect the local community.
To make the day even more special, Buckeye Imagination Museum will be providing free passes for a future visit to children who participate. This offers an added incentive for families to attend while reinforcing the museum’s commitment to community engagement.
