In a Thursday announcement shared on its website, The Bellville Star announced that its Thursday edition was its last in print format.
According to the post, which can be read here, Bellville News will begin to appear in the Galion Inquirer online and in a supplement on Wednesdays. The Bellville Star website will also be re-directed to that of the Inquirer, which is at: www.galioninquirer.com.
The Inquirer itself no longer has offices in Galion; those were moved to Mount Gilead some weeks ago. Both publications are owned by AIM Media Midwest. The company was established in 2017 and acquired the Ohio print and online newspaper publishing assets and the commercial printing assets of Civitas Media LLC.
The first newspaper published in Bellville was the fantastically-named “Rainbow and Repository,” which had a subscription price of $1 a year and folded after a few months. The current run of The Bellville Star began publication on April 20, 1922, and so has served the community for almost 97 years. That was not the first Star in town, however – the Richland Star began as a monthly in 1876.
