Special to 1812Blockhouse, By Avita Health System
Avita Health System has announced that the maternity unit at Ontario Hospital opened at 8:00am on Monday, February 28.
“Our maternity unit was designed with the patient in mind,” said Jerome Morasko, President/CEO at Avita Health System. “We wanted to bring another option for obstetrical care to the area and offer a birthing experience in an atmosphere that is safe, comfortable, and feels like home.”
Avita Ontario Hospital’s maternity unit features 11 Labor, Delivery, Recovery, and Postpartum (LDRP) suites, 2 triage rooms, 2 operating rooms, and a nursery. LDRP suites are private, spacious rooms that are equipped to care for mom and baby before, during, and after the birth. At Avita, each suite is over 400 square feet with brand-new amenities, including private bathrooms and showers.
“The new LDRP unit is beautiful. We are very excited to open to the community today,” stated Kim Winkle, Vice President of Operations at Avita Health System. We started construction in March of 2021 and the unit was completed less than a year later. Our vision was brought to life with the help of Adena Corporation and Davis Wince, Ltd. Architecture.”
Avita has invested approximately 15 million on Phase III of Ontario Hospital – the development of the second floor – which includes a maternity unit and an additional medical/surgical unit and intensive care unit. The inpatient units are slated to open in Spring 2022. Avita is on track to add 100 jobs at Ontario Hospital.
