The Mansfield Art Center is hosting its much-anticipated Triennial Exhibition, Proximity of Fate through Sunday, October 20. This exhibition promises to be a thought-provoking exploration of how chance and intentionality collide, resulting in new and complex narratives. Art enthusiasts, local residents, and visitors are invited to experience this captivating display in the Elizabeth T. Black and Foundation Galleries.

Exploring ‘Proximity of Fate’

Proximity of Fate is not just an exhibition; it’s an artistic exploration of how the unexpected can shape and redefine narratives. Curated by Marquise Stillwell, a Mansfield native with deep ties to the art center, the exhibition delves into the notion of chance as a catalyst for new ideas and experiences. Stillwell’s journey began with childhood visits to the Mansfield Art Center, which he describes as a “safe space for being myself.” His two-decade-long career in design, art, and culture has come full circle with this exhibition, where he curates a vision of art, culture, and humanity intersecting in a meaningful way.

The show asks visitors to question the role of the artist and the art itself, challenging them to see beyond the obvious and engage with the underlying complexities that define our existence. The interplay between the industrial and artistic heritage of Mansfield is a recurring theme, highlighting the unique character of the community and its impact on the arts.

A Curatorial Collaboration

The exhibition is further enriched by the collaboration of several esteemed curatorial advisors. Alice Gray Stites, Chief Curator at 21C Museum Hotels, and Justine Ludwig, Executive Director of Creative Time, bring their extensive expertise to the project, ensuring a high-caliber presentation that resonates with a wide audience. Project Manager Karina Salamanca also plays a crucial role in bringing this ambitious project to life, coordinating efforts to create an immersive and cohesive experience for visitors.

Proximity of Fate invites you to step into a world where art, chance, and intentionality collide. Whether you are a seasoned art lover or someone new to the art scene, this exhibition offers a unique opportunity to explore how the unexpected can shape our understanding of the world around us.
