Families looking for an afternoon of music, storytelling, and fun can mark their calendars for Sunday, February 16 when the Renaissance Theatre will host the second Teddy Bear Concert of its 2024-25 Mechanics Bank Education Series. The event, starting at 2:30 PM, promises a fresh twist on the classic tale of Little Red Riding Hood, brought to life by Artistic Director Michael Thomas, the Mansfield Symphony’s Woodwind Duet, and interactive audience participation.
The Teddy Bear Concerts are a much-loved part of the Renaissance Theatre’s family programming. These performances take well-loved stories and present them in a new way, combining interactive acting with live music performed by members of the Mansfield Symphony Orchestra. This time, the spotlight is on Little Red Riding Hood, with an original script that invites children to play an active role in the storytelling.
The series is specifically designed for children aged 2 to 10, making it an ideal introduction to live theatre and symphonic music. A relaxed and sensory-friendly atmosphere, complete with low sound levels, gentle lighting, and small audience sizes, ensures that all children, including those with sensory-processing needs, feel welcome.
A Hands-On Approach to Learning
One of the most engaging aspects of the Teddy Bear Concerts is their hands-on approach. Children are not just spectators; they become part of the performance, learning about symphonic instruments and musical concepts along the way. Members of the Mansfield Symphony Orchestra provide close-up demonstrations of their instruments, giving young audiences a chance to see, hear, and even touch them in an intimate setting.
Held at Theatre 166, the Renaissance Theatre’s more intimate venue, these concerts offer a chance for families to explore the arts together in a way that feels personal and accessible. And of course, children are encouraged to bring along their favorite teddy bears to join in the fun!
Affordable, Accessible, and Family-Friendly
Tickets for the Little Red Riding Hood Teddy Bear Concert are just $5, making this event both affordable and accessible for families. Seats are limited to maintain an intimate and engaging experience, so early ticket purchases are recommended.
Tickets can be purchased at the Renaissance Box Office at 138 Park Avenue West in Mansfield, by calling 419-522-2726, or online at rentickets.org.
Thanks to Community Support
The Teddy Bear Concert Series is made possible through the generous support of Nationwide Children’s, the Ohio Arts Council, and Sharon Granter, in memory of her late husband, Don. This community-driven backing ensures that the Renaissance Theatre can continue to offer high-quality educational programming for children and families.
A Memorable Day for Families
Whether it’s the enchanting story of Little Red Riding Hood, the chance to meet symphonic instruments up close, or the joy of sharing the experience with their favorite teddy bear, children are sure to leave with memories that will last a lifetime.
Plan to join the fun on February 16 and see how the Renaissance Theatre continues to bring creativity and education together for young audiences.
