Winter Academic Challenge at MOESC

Thirty sixth grade teams and 38 middle school teams recently participated in the Winter Academic Challenge Tournaments sponsored by and held at the Mid-Ohio Educational Service Center. Talent Galore At Madison Tonight

Weather Dances At Woodland Pack The House

If you’re wondering if science can be taught through dance, just ask any of the standing-room-only crowd of parents and grandparents who packed the Woodland Elementary School gymnasium Friday afternoon. "Weather Dances” culminated a month of instruction by teaching artist Tom Evert, an internationally acclaimed dancer, choreographer and founder of the Cleveland-based dance company DancEvert. Principal Kim Johnson explained earlier that dance is one element of arts integration in education – others are music, theater and the visual arts – that helps children learn in different ways. OSU Holding Day Of Giving

The Ohio State University is holding its first-ever Day of Giving this week, with an opportunity to designate a gift to benefit a specifc area of university operation – including support for OSU Mansfield. Forney Becomes New Board Of Education Member

The newest member of the Mansfield City Schools Board of Education is returning to the district that “prepared me well for life.” Judy Stahl Forney, a 1967 graduate of Mansfield Malabar High School, took the oath of office Tuesday night after she was selected to fill the vacancy created by the resignation of Monica Hubbard. The remaining four board members – Renda Cline, Chris Elswick, Sheryl Weber and Gary Feagin – voted unanimously in choosing Forney from a field a five applicants. She will serve the remainder of Hubbard’s term through Dec. 31. If she desires to serve longer she will have to be a candidate in the November election. Read More

Majority Of Richland County Districts Would See Increase Under Kasich Proposal

When Ohio Governor John Kasich released his proposed 2017-2018 budget proposal, it included changes to monies for schools that would, if enacted, reduce funding by 2019 for some 55% of the districts in Ohio. In Richland County, however, the majority of school districts would see some increase. This is according to numbers released this week by the Ohio Office of Budget and Management. Read More

D.A.R.E. Graduation At Malabar

Seventy sixth-graders at Malabar Intermediate School graduated from the 12-week D.A.R.E. program Friday as Officer Jack Shay nears the end of his 15-year tenure as head of the alcohol and drug awareness program. Shay will retire next month after more than 20 years with the Mansfield Police Department. Also on Friday, faculty and staff at Malabar wore purple in honor of librarian Maxine Johnson who passed away recently. During the board of education meeting at Malabar on Feb. 21 the library will be named in honor of Mrs. Johnson, a 33-year employee of Mansfield City Schools. Read More
