A national chain with a location in Richland County is the most recent in a string of retailers to shut down in the wake of the COVID-19 pandemic.
Christopher & Banks, a national retailer of women’s clothing, has filed for bankruptcy on Thursday in New Jersey and is expected to close most if not all of its locations.
The company recently announced third quarter sales that resulted in a $10.8 million loss. In a press release, the company said,
“Despite the tremendous advancements we have made in executing our strategic plan, due to the financial distress resulting from the pandemic and its ongoing impact, we elected to initiate this process and pursue a potential sale of the business in whole or in part to position the Company for the future.”
As of the posting of this story, there has been no announcement of closing sales on the Christopher & Banks/Richland Mall Facebook Page.
The chain was founded in 1956 in Minneapolis as Braun’s Fashions. It adopted its current name in 2000.
