Richland County job hunters might want to make a trip south later this month.

Job seekers are invited to explore career opportunities available from more than 50 government agencies, universities, construction firms and apprenticeship programs at the Ohio Business and Career Expo being held from 9:00 AM to 4:00 PM on May 17 at the Ohio Expo Center’s Cardinal Hall, 717 E. 17th Ave., Columbus.

This free networking and learning opportunity is geared toward job seekers who are minorities, women, or otherwise socially and economically disadvantaged. The purpose of the expo includes supporting the equal employment opportunity efforts of the State of Ohio and its partners. Employers recruiting will include State of Ohio agencies, The Ohio State University, Columbus State Community College, Columbus Regional Airport Authority and Central Ohio Transit Authority as well as construction firms working on state or state-assisted projects and construction apprenticeship programs.

In addition to one-on-one networking opportunities, the expo will offer workshops on resume writing, online job searching techniques, application processes and interviewing techniques. A computer lab will be available for job seekers to start creating a profile on the State of Ohio job posting site, careers.ohio.gov.

Registration begins at 8 a.m. A welcome ceremony will be held from 9:00 to 9:30 AM. Networking booths and workshops will be held from 9:30 AM to 4:00 PM. In addition, the expo is hosting The Big Table discussions from 3:00 PM to 4:00 PM. The discussions are part of conversations about improving the community that are being held throughout central Ohio on May 17 by the Columbus Foundation. Admission is free. Parking is $5.

The expo is sponsored by the Ohio Department of Administrative Services, Columbus Regional Airport Authority, and the Ohio Department of Transportation.
