Back in September, we looked at the then-new announcement from Macy’s that it planned to close some 100 stores before the end of 2017. Then, later the same month, we shared other news from national retailers about impending reductions in size.

This week, two announcement about closures have been made, and in both cases, Richland County locations have survived this round.

Macy’s announced the shuttering of 68 stores across the country, including four in Ohio – in Sandusky, Steubenville, and two in Columbus (Tuttle Crossing and Eastland). A corporate press release can be found here. Additional details of the decision can be found at this link:

Long-time retailer Sears is closing the doors of some 150 stores, including 108 Kmart locations. Sears also sold its famous Craftsman line of tools for $775 million to help offset losses.

Ohio Kmarts which are closing including locations in Mount Vernon, Gallipolis, Kenton, New Boston, Reynoldsburg, St. Clairsville, and Zanesville; Sears stores will be lost in Akron, Chillicothe, Lancaster, and Richland Heights. The complete list can be accessed here.
