At a recent meeting, Richland County Commissioners took a middle ground on a request for a refund on water charges.
The matter came to light when Commissioners received a letter earlier this month from the Director of the Heatherwood Apartments on Laver Road, in which a request was made for a refund due to a purported water leak. This leak, which was shared was ongoing for some three years, resulted in an outstanding bill of slightly over $70,000.
One Commissioner noted that three years was an excessive amount of time in which to notice a leak, and the apartment representative at the meeting accepted that premise as the apartments’ billing manager had noticed the leak. Questions were also asked about the fact that the laundry facility had not been charged on an additional sewer bill.
Taking everything into account, the Commissioners voted unanimously to offer a one year refund of charges to the complex.
