A classic comic operetta is preparing to set sail in Mansfield, carried by the voices, energy, and stage presence of a young local cast.

Under the direction of Lori Turner, the Renaissance Theatre will present the Renaissance Youth Opera Theatre production of H.M.S. Pinafore by Gilbert and Sullivan for four performances on Saturday, June 27, at 2:00 PM and 7:00 PM, and Sunday, June 28, at 1:00 PM and 4:00 PM.

The production will be staged in the Ren’s Theatre 166 space and is part of the Mechanics Bank Education Series, with support from Buckeye Express Car Wash, Inc. General admission tickets are free for adults and students. Seating is limited, and advance reservations are encouraged through the Renaissance Box Office, by phone, or online at rentickets.org.

A Classic With A Youthful Cast

H.M.S. Pinafore is one of Gilbert and Sullivan’s best-known works, a comic operetta filled with romance, mistaken identities, social satire, and some of the witty lyrics and memorable melodies that helped shape the course of modern musical theatre.

Set aboard the British ship H.M.S. Pinafore, the story offers audiences a lively voyage through class expectations, love, and comic complications. In this Renaissance Youth Opera Theatre production, the familiar tale is brought to life by students in grades 2 through 12. The production features 22 young performers from Mansfield, Shelby, Lexington, Ontario, and Ashland, with students ranging in age from 7 to 18.

Learning By Doing

RYOT gives young performers hands-on experience in acting, singing, dancing, and technical theatre. Students are involved both on stage and behind the scenes, learning from industry professionals in a creative and supportive environment. The program is designed not only to introduce students to performance, but also to immerse them in the broader theatre-making process. For many participants, that means learning how music, movement, staging, timing, teamwork, and technical elements come together to create a live production.

This production also includes double-casting in roles within the show, giving more students the opportunity to perform and allowing audiences to experience different casts across the four performances.

The Students On Board

The cast includes Ella Aquino, Breah Boyd, Estel Bramlage, Evelyn Brumagin, Lillian Brumagin, Olivia Brumagin, Evalina Curtis, Olive Evans, Violet Fridley, Eliana King, Marilena Kruer, Steliana Kruer, Toby Lux, Elizabeth Pocock, Madelyn Rice, Gianna-Cosette Rohl, Caroline Secrist, Evelyn Shaw, Molly Spoon, Halle Williams, Harper Williams, and Abby Yoak.

For audiences, H.M.S. Pinafore offers the chance to enjoy a beloved work from the comic opera tradition while supporting the next generation of local performers.

How To Attend
