On Sunday, February 15 at 2:30 PM, the Renaissance Performing Arts Association invites families to step into a storybook world with Jack and the Beanstalk, the newest entry in its much-loved Teddy Bear Concert Series. The performance takes place at Theatre 166, located beside the Renaissance Theatre.

This production is aimed squarely at young audiences, especially children ages 2 to 10, along with parents, grandparents, and caregivers who want a shared experience that feels welcoming rather than intimidating.

A Fairy Tale Built for Little Ears and Big Imaginations

Jack and the Beanstalk reimagines the classic fairy tale as a lively musical adventure. Jack climbs skyward, meets a not-so-ordinary giant, and learns about bravery, curiosity, and taking chances along the way. The show leans into catchy songs, playful storytelling, and moments where kids are encouraged to react, laugh, and join in. This is not theater where children are expected to sit perfectly still. It is designed to meet them where they are.

Why the Teddy Bear Concerts Matter

The Teddy Bear Concert Series was created with first-time theatergoers in mind. Performances are shorter, sound levels are kept low, and sensory-friendly spaces are available so families can relax and focus on the experience rather than the rules.

That approach makes a difference. For many children, this is their first live performance. The goal is not polish or perfection, but comfort, curiosity, and joy.

Community Support Behind the Curtain

The series is part of the Mechanics Bank Education Series, with sensory-friendly accommodations supported by Gorman-Rupp Company. The concerts are presented in partnership with Nationwide Children’s, reinforcing a shared commitment to accessibility and family-centered programming. According to Dauphne Maloney, the focus is always on creating a positive first impression. Teddy Bear Concerts are meant to spark curiosity and joy, whether a child is brand new to theater or already asking when the next show is coming.

Tickets, Timing, and What to Bring

Tickets are $5, keeping the event affordable and easy to say yes to. Seats can be purchased at rentickets.org or through the Renaissance Box Office at 419-522-2726.

Families are encouraged to bring their favorite teddy bear, settle in, and enjoy a gentle, engaging introduction to live performance. No prior theater experience required. Just a sense of adventure and maybe a stuffed companion ready to climb the beanstalk.
