The Ohio Department of Transportation has shared updates several ongoing and upcoming projects that will affect travel in Richland County between now and winter, with timelines stretching into 2027. All work is weather dependent.

State Route 13

State Route 13 is entering a long stretch of resurfacing between Hanley Road and Chilton Avenue. Both directions will see long-term lane closures, and crews have already shut down the passing lanes for reconstruction and culvert work. Traffic is moving through 10-foot lanes separated by barrels. The project is expected to run through May 2027.

US 42

Signal upgrades continue along U.S. 42 at four key intersections: Hanley Road, Kroger (Ashland Road), Stewart Road, and Eastview/Reiser Drive. Daytime lane closures are possible while crews work, and completion is targeted for April 2026.

I 71

Interstate 71 drivers will see intermittent lane restrictions between the Ashland County line and State Route 39 as pavement repairs wrap up. Traffic will stay in 11-foot lanes when crews are present. The overall project is scheduled to finish this month.

State Route 97

In Bellville, State Route 97 will close Monday, November 17, just east of North Huron Street, for a culvert replacement inside village limits. The official detour sends eastbound drivers to SR 13, I-71, SR 39, SR 603, and SR 95 before reconnecting with SR 97. Westbound drivers will follow the same route in reverse. The village expects the road to reopen Friday, November 21, 2025.
