On a chilly weekday morning, a steady stream of people wandered down West Third Street, drawn by the scent of chocolate and the sound of pure surprise:

“Wait. They have that soda?”

Grandpa Joe’s Candy Shop has officially opened at 80 West Third Street inside the historic Caldwell building, bringing an explosion of color and sugar to downtown Mansfield. The shop feels like stepping into a time capsule and a playground at the same time. Shelves stretch high and deep with treats you haven’t tasted since childhood and others you’ve never seen before.

You don’t browse Grandpa Joe’s. You embark.

A Candy Store For People Who Still Believe in Surprise

The new downtown spot offers hand-dipped ice cream, chocolates, international favorites, and so many sodas that choosing one becomes its own adventure.

• Over 350 varieties of glass-bottled craft sodas
• 250 different candy bars
• More than 100 bulk candy bins stacked like edible confetti

And yes, the infamous $5 Candy Buffet is here. Five dollars. Whatever fits in the container. No one pretends that’s easy.

The store’s team calls themselves candy historians, and they take that job seriously. Ask where a weird Swedish gummy or a vintage chocolate bar came from, and you’ll get a story. Grandpa Joe’s started in Pittsburgh, but every location leans into its neighborhood. Mansfield’s shop already feels like it belongs here.

Downtown has added restaurants and boutiques in recent years. A candy store, especially one with this much character, feels like the missing puzzle piece.

Just Up the Street, Something Completely Different

Walk north a few blocks, and another door is about to open.

Roseto Event Venue, located at 23 North Main Street, is preparing for its ribbon cutting at 11:00 AM on November 21. Roseto blends the original bones of a historic downtown building with a clean, modern interior: one part industrial edges, one part refined polish. Think tall ceilings, natural light, and design choices that don’t have to shout to be heard.

It’s built for weddings, fundraisers, celebrations, and the kind of gatherings that stick in people’s memories for years. With restaurants, bars, and Central Park only steps away, guests can walk from ceremony to cocktails to late-night celebration without ever starting the car.

A Downtown That Keeps Reinventing Itself

The opening of Grandpa Joe’s and the arrival of Roseto mark something that’s been building for a while. Mansfield isn’t just restoring old buildings. It’s filling them with life.

You can make a day of it now: grab coffee, wander the shops, take in a show, try a new restaurant, and end the night with a stroll through downtown lights. The heart of the city has movement again.

Two new businesses. Two completely different vibes. One direction: forward.
