For young performers ready to step into the spotlight, or simply curious about what happens onstage before the curtain rises, the Renaissance is opening registration for its annual Broadway Camp! summer theatre program.

Designed for students ages 8 to 13, the popular camp gives children a chance to explore musical theatre through theatre games, improv, dramatic play, staging, and singing. Sessions are built for students of all ability levels, with an emphasis on participation, confidence, and the shared experience of creating something together.

Two Camp Options This Summer

This year’s Broadway Camp! sessions will be held in person during the weeks of June 15–18 and June 22–26. The traditional morning camp runs June 15–18, with no session on June 19. Tuition for that four-day session is $110. The day-long Broadway Camp Showz! session runs June 22–26 and offers a deeper theatre experience for students ready to take on a fuller production. Tuition for that five-day session is $125.

Both sessions are sensory-inclusive, and full and partial scholarships are available.

From Theatre Games To A Final Performance

Each camp gives students room to learn by doing. Campers work on performance skills, movement, vocal expression, staging, and ensemble work, all within an inclusive setting designed to help every child feel part of the process. Each session concludes with a special performance for parents, friends, and guests, giving students the chance to share what they have learned in front of an audience.

A Bigger Stage With Broadway Camp Showz!

Added in 2022, Broadway Camp Showz! gives participants the opportunity to present a fully staged Broadway Kids-style production. The camp uses a script and score adapted from a popular Broadway musical and is designed specifically for young actors. Students interested in Broadway Camp Showz! must have previously completed a two- or three-hour Broadway Camp session, or Broadway Camp, Too!

Led By A Familiar Name In Youth Theatre

Broadway Camp! is coordinated and led by Renaissance teaching artist Dauphne Maloney, a longtime leader in youth theatre across North Central Ohio.

Maloney is the founder and director of Mansfield Youth Theatre, former Resident Director for the Renaissance Youth Opera Theatre, and youth theatre director at The Ohio State University-Mansfield. She has directed and costumed more than 300 productions and served for more than 20 years as Youth Theatre Director for the Mansfield Playhouse. Campers will work directly with Maloney, along with seasoned youth theatre actors.

How To Register

Registration is limited. Families can register for either Broadway Camp! week at www.rentickets.org. Questions about registration, scholarships, sensory sensitivities, or other needs may be directed to Renaissance Education Manager Dauphne Maloney at dauphne@mansfieldtickets.com or 419-522-2726, ext. 212.

Broadway Camp! is presented as part of the Mechanics Bank Education Series, with support from the Richland County Foundation Summertime Kids Fund.
