Right in the heart of the Halloween season comes an opportunity to engage in a bit of a scare within the safe confines of downtown Mansfield.
On Friday, October 21, the Renaissance Theatre will present a screening of the movie, “Phantom of the Opera.” And not just any version of that classic – it’s the 1925 black and white, silent version starring famed horror film actor Lon Chaney.
According to Wikipedia, “The film remains most famous for Chaney’s ghastly, self-devised makeup, which was kept a studio secret until the film’s premiere.
The film will be accompanied by the Renaissance’s magnificent Wurlitzer organ. According to the Renaissance website, the organ was constructed about 1929 for Warner Brothers’ Sunset Boulevard Studio and has been in Mansfield since 1985.
