What a year!

The past twelve months have seen north central Ohio continue to grow and change. Throughout, we have been sharing our own posts about those developments and sharing links from other local media.

We recently sat down with spreadsheets and charts to identify the five most-read posts on 1812Blockhouse in 2022. The results did not surprise us, but did show a continued interest in local stories on new and closing businesses and other local economic news.

These stories are presented in chronological order. We will share two today, two tomorrow, and the final post on Friday.

On January 18, we started off with a bang with New Retailer Coming To Ontario which drew many readers to 1812Blockhouse to learn about this new business.

“The bend in the Springfield Square shopping center in Ontario is a busy place these days. Formerly the home of Staples, the storefront at 542 Lexington-Springmill Road is sporting a bit of a different look. A sign on the facade heralds the imminent arrival of Ross Dress for Less, a discount department store chain from California. As of 2018, it was America’s largest off-price retailer with 1,483 stores in 37 states.”

In May, we covered announcement of the publication of the 2022 List of Ohio’s Most Endnagered Historic Sites. In Park Avenue West Named One Of Ohio’s Most Endangered Historic Sites,” we shared:

“The 2022 list, announced today, includes 13 locations around the Buckeye State including houses, a neighborhood, a church, a former county courthouse, a former school, a lake, and more.

And for 2022, that list includes a site in Mansfield for the very first time.

This year’s list of 13 properties includes the “Historic Resources of Park Avenue West” in Mansfield. The area consists of approximately eight blocks along the main street of Mansfield, Richland County.”
