Fall Hike For Health

Richland Public Health’s annual “Fall Hike for Health” is Saturday, October 21, at Malabar Farm State Park and Gorman Nature Center in Mansfield. The fall hikes are in their 17th year at Malabar Farm State Park and 3rd year at Gorman Nature Center.

Enjoy the beauty of Ohio’s fall colors at both locations with hikes through the woods from 9 AM to 2 PM. Hikes are self-guided with suggested start times by noon. More…

The goal of Child Passenger Safety Week (September 17-23) is to make sure all children are secured properly in appropriate seats – every trip, every time. Parents and caregivers are urged to make sure their child safety seats and booster seats are properly installed and used in their vehicles.

Child safety seats work best when used correctly but roughly 3 out of 4 child safety seats are not used correctly. When properly installed, child safety seats and booster seats save lives – offering the best protection for children in the event of a crash. More…

Richland Public Health Named As Project DAWN Site

Richland Public Health is now recognized as a Project DAWN (Deaths Avoided With Naloxone) distribution and training site. Through the Project DAWN program, Richland Public Health is able to educate, train and distribute Project DAWN kits to concerned individuals at no cost, made possible through a grant from the Ohio Department of Health.

Project DAWN kits include two doses of naloxone (Narcan), two nasal atomizers, two face shields for rescue breathing, a quick reference tool and a Richland Public Health resource guide that includes treatment options throughout Richland County. More…

Richland Public Health Shares 2016 Vital Statistics Details

Richland Public Health has posted the totals for causes of death in 2016 as well as the statistics for births in the county. The birth and death statistics are compiled monthly by the Vital Statistics office at Richland Public Health, the same office that provides birth and death certificates.

The statistics do not include deaths or births within the City of Shelby that are recorded by the Shelby City Health Department. There may be a few changes in the causes of death as twelve (12) deaths are still pending autopsy reports. More…

Richland County Traffic Fatalities Fall To 13 Year Low

The Richland County Safe Communities Coalition reports that for the month of December there were no traffic deaths in Richland County. There were six total traffic-related deaths for 2016 in Richland County. This marks the lowest total for traffic fatalities since the Richland County Safe Communities Coalition was formed in 2003. The record low follows the second worst year for traffic fatalities as there were 17 in 2015. And in 2011 there were five traffic fatalities in December alone. More…
