Prospect Elementary Garden Garners First Place Trophy

A flower and vegetable garden that supplements learning at Prospect Elementary School was a first-place winner this summer in Mansfield’s Seventh Annual Take Pride Earth Stewardship Contest.

For many elementary-age children, the term “summer slide” means gliding down a colorful plastic chute to splash into a swimming pool. For Mansfield City Schools Superintendent Brian Garverick, however, it means the erosion of reading skills that can occur between May and August.

Mansfield Teachers Gain Insight Into Teaching Students With Dyslexia

Seven Mansfield City Schools teachers were back in the classroom last week, participating in 30 hours of specialized training for working with children who have difficulty with reading, spelling and writing of the type associated with dyslexia.

The Monday-Friday sessions at the Mid-Ohio Educational Service Center focused on the Orton-Gillingham approach to teaching. Training was led by Victoria Jones of the Institute for Multi-Sensory Education. More…
