North Central State President To Keynote At Franklin University Commencement

A Mansfield-based educator will have the honor of serving as keynote speaker at Columbus’ Franklin University later this month.

Franklin University, one of the leading educators of working adults, will hold its 154th Commencement Ceremony on Sunday, January 8, during which more than 650 degree candidates will receive their diplomas. The Center for Community Solutions has published a report which looks at the challenges and opportunities for 47 of Ohio’s so-called “hub small cities,” defined as those cities which are a seat of county government, have a four year college or university, and have a major hospital.

In a section of the report entitled “Big City Problems in Ohio’s Small Towns,” which distills its 63 pages, it shares the following overall findings:

Holiday Travel In Ohio: Stay Alert And Be Prepared

The Ohio Department of Transportation has issued its annual holiday driving alert.

Ohio highways will be full of travelers for the holidays. Traffic volumes in Ohio increase an average of 37 percent for the Christmas holiday and 33 percent for New Year’s Day. The last time the holiday fell on a Sunday – 2011 – the busiest travel days were the Thursday before Christmas and the Monday after Christmas. More…

Renaissance Performing Arts Makes New Building Announcement

Tax Credit Awards Announced; Richland County Left Out Again

22 Dec , 2016  

On Tuesday, the Ohio Development Services Agency announced recipients for the 17th round of the Ohio Historic Preservation Tax Credit. And, for the 17th time in a row, no Richland County project was included.

This set of awards included $22.8 million in tax credits to 18 applicants planning to rehabilitate 33 historic buildings. Together, the projects are expected to generate $225.6 million in private investment in 12 communities across Ohio. More…

Mansfield Schools Released From Fiscal Emergency

Auditor of State Dave Yost today released the Mansfield City School District from fiscal emergency, a status it held for three years.

The district was placed in fiscal emergency on Dec. 17, 2013 as a result of its failure to adopt and submit a recovery plan that would eliminate a projected fiscal year 2014 deficit. “It takes strong leadership to erase a substantial deficit,” Auditor Yost said. More…
