These images were taken during the noon hour at this amazing historic landmark. We’re happy to share them with you on your Sunday – with a recommendation that you head down Pleasant Valley Road yourself sometime very soon!

How Are Mansfield And Other Ohio Legacy Cities Doing?

15 Oct , 2016

This summer, Greater Ohio, the state’s self-styled champion for policies and practices that value urban cores and metropolitan regions as economic drivers, while at the same time preserving Ohio’s open space and farmland, issued a 28 page report entitled, “From Akron to Zanesville: How Are Ohio’s Small and Mid-Sized Cities Faring?” In particular, the study looked at what are referred to as “legacy cities,” that is, cities with an industrial past, which have lost population over the last several decades, and is not a college town or near-metro suburb (this would include all Ohio metropolitan areas with the exception of Columbus). Carousel Works Restoring Historic South Dakota Carousel

10 Oct , 2016

Years ago, carousels were often made to be taken apart and moved from town to town, like amusement park rides of today. Instead of moving around, the Art B. Thomas Carousel at Prairie Village has been in one place for 50 years.

This week, however, the steam-powered attraction was taken apart by the Carousel Works company and now is on the move to its Mansfield woodworking shop. Volunteers have long been working to restore the 116 year-old ride, and Cecelia Wittmayer, a member of the Prairie Pasque Questers, is working on grant funding to help offset the cost of the restoration.

When Carousel Works looked at the carousel in 2011, Wittmayer said, they identified some ‘must repair and restore’ items, including the horses and chariots. More…
